About this course
Why it matters
Although the requirements are federal, each state is responsible for establishing processes to implement, assess, monitor, and maintain compliance with them. This course focuses specifically on California’s implementation of the federal requirements, including the standards, guidance, and resources provided by the California Department of Developmental Services. The federal transition period ended on March 17, 2023, and ongoing compliance is required.
We have incorporated brief references to the ten federal requirements into this course, and the ways in which service providers can demonstrate alignment with the Final Rule using refined methods of scheduling, conducting and documenting individuals’ meetings. Throughout the course, we incorporate topics such as trauma-informed and trauma-specific support, cultural competence and cultural humility, positive behavioral and person-centered support.
